Defining One's Person and Life Direction
Who am I? What do I want to do? What am I called to do? What makes me happy? These are just some of the questions that confront us and make us feel uncomfortable sometimes.
Defining one’s person and one’s direction is critical especially when we come to adulthood. While some of may have known already from an early age what they want to be and how they can plan to get there, for many, this is still a big question. Continuing adjustment may even still confront those who have drafted a life goal as they open themselves to the broader realities of life and its challenges.
While our basic education plus the influence of significant people around us brought some series of purposive changes that allowed growth and formation, the definition of our person will have to come from us. Receiving a diploma from the school validates that a ground of learning for which to start has been at least laid but we are the ones defining the kind of seed that we are and how we will grow to for the fulfillment of that nature and the happiness we seek in life.
Dr. Holden author of the best-selling book, Happiness NOW said that the happiness that we all seek for is actually our “original nature.” We “feel happiest when we begin to know who we truly are” and actualize this nature. What are your talents? What are your personality strengths? These tell you your true nature and the mission for which you are called to do. This life task takes a lot of self-examination and discernment. You need to know yourself and discern for the things that contribute to being you.
